It is with great pride, humility and enthusiasm that I announce my
candidacy for re-election for Mayor of the City of Thibodaux. I am
honored to have had the opportunity to serve the people of Thibodaux
and wish to continue to serve you as Mayor for another term.
Much has been accomplished since I became Mayor, yet there is much
more to be done especially during this time of rebuilding. My commitment
to the citizens of Thibodaux is to continue to serve with fair, honest,
positive, and progressive leadership while preserving Thibodaux’s
long standing values and traditions. Along with our remarkable citizens
and the cooperative teamwork of my administration and community partners,
the City of Thibodaux has experienced unprecedented growth economically
and in the quality of life during my term as Mayor.
Over the last several years, I have worked with elected local, state,
and federal officials along with the business community to maintain
the integrity of our city through improvements to utilities and infrastructure,
technology, traffic flow, expanding recreational programs and facilities,
and providing a safe community in which to live, work and raise a family.
As your public servant, I will continue to accept the position of
Mayor to serve the citizens of Thibodaux with sound judgment, fairness,
professionalism, and compassion. As we continue to progress, we face
challenging demands which require proven leadership, which I am committed
to continue for the future of this great city.
Under my administration, and for the first time in the city’s
history, a long-term strategic plan for the city is in place that combines
an understanding and appreciation of the city’s history with
the needs and demands of the new century. This Vision and Mission Statement

I have worked hard as your voice in maintaining and making major improvements
throughout the city in the following priority areas:
Utility systems
• Master Transportation Plan
• Master Sewer Study
• Over $1.4 million in drainage projects citywide with grant funding
• Completed Hazard Mitigation Plan to secure funding for future FEMA
drainage and mitigation projects
Streets and Traffic
• Construction, overlay and improvements to 27.7 miles of streets citywide
• Creation of an east corridor from Canal Boulevard to Thibodaux
Regional Hospital along Back Street and Acadia Road
• Designed and bid out traffic signalization and median cross-overs
to alleviate traffic congestion at Audubon Avenue and Acadia Road
• Public Transportation Study in progress through South Central Planning
Development Commission
• Left turn lane at the intersection of Canal Boulevard and Highway

• Three-laning of North Canal Boulevard
• New west by-pass road to Tiger Drive
• Re-surfacing of SP Road (connecting Jackson and St. Mary Street)
Recreation Facilities, Parks and Programs
• Water Reservoir and Walking Trail area – recipient of the prestigious
LA Municipal Association 2005 Community Achievement Award
• Constructed soccer fields at Andolsek Park
• Implemented new recreation programs for all age groups
• New playground equipment at Peltier Park, Martin Luther King Park
and Civic Center Park
• New walking trails at the Peltier Park, Martin Luther King Park,
Chiasson Park and Eagle/Midland Drive area
Law Enforcement and Community Safety
• Appointed Craig Melancon as Chief of Police to lead and enhance law
enforcement efforts
• Purchase of police equipment to reduce speeding and increase safety
• Creation of a Traffic Division to study and monitor congestion and
speeding
• Creation of our own Bureau of Narcotics and Special Emergency Response
Team
• Implemented a Community Policing program
• Implemented K-9 Division, Bike Patrol and Mounted Patrol
• Extensive training programs and seminars to allow police officers
to better serve our citizens
• Continued to provide a safe and clean community
Economic Development and Growth
• Over $13.7 million in grant funding for projects and programs throughout
the city. These funds are obtained through federal, state and local
funding sources and are used to plan and complete numerous projects
citywide.
• Assisted Nicholls State University in hosting the Manning Passing
Academy
• Annexation of John Deere (formerly known as Cameco) and portions
of Acadia Plantation Traditional Neighborhood Development
• Implemented local Façade Grant Program
Technology
• Creation of user-friendly city website
• Creation of Weekly e-newsletter
• Great strides in technology – installed a complete system of
integrated financial software applications specifically designed for
municipalities bringing the city into the 21st century
City facilities/buildings
• Renovations to city buildings such as City Hall, the Civic Center,
Public Works Department building, Police Department, Red Cross building
and the Scout Hut at Peltier Park
• Construction of new Senior Citizens Center
Quality of Life
• Implemented and continued mosquito abatement program
• Implemented new recreation programs for youth and adults
• Created “Help Your Neighbor” utility assistance
program for senior citizens and disabled persons
• Implemented Sr. Mayor and Sr. Chief programs
• Additional drop-off for mail at the post office
• Created Standards of Performance for city workers to focus on “People
First” in their daily job duties
